The project proposes a space for numerous leisure and sport functions of varying character that is defined by an easily readable, coherent system. Four stand-alone functional zones are encompassed by an access system that also facilitates wayfinding within the park for various groups of users. The distinct zones define themed fields of use with different degrees of activity ranging from “Sport” (skatepark, cyclocross track) and “Play” (playground for children of different ages, with ancillary spaces) to “Entertainment” (public square with covered stage and café pavilion) and “Relaxation” (smaller rest zones, seating in leafy settings).
Access takes the form of an external loop with a lane for cyclists and inline skaters and narrower cross links that divide up separate functional zones, thus ensuring easy access. When necessary, the elasticity of the system enables effortless customisation for changing requirements, for instance to accommodate shifting needs of a particular group of users with regard to space or new leisure activities. The project also intends to preserve the existing trees and to keep the proportion of unsealed surfaces as large as possible.
