The design for the sprawling plot is based on the continuation of the surrounding block structure in a modified form, whereby the modifications primarily concern the mix of uses, passageways, as well as height of the development, subject to the primary use. Through the typologies “open block” and “deep row” as well as the definition of different street profiles, the principle local characteristics of both the development as well as the public space remain preserved. Dense urban structures were created, which are equally suitable for holding different contents, and for their modification, without the necessity of an elaborate urban renovation. Starting point for these structures are block, row, street, and square, which are further developed and newly interpreted to accord with contemporary, flexible demands and include both the potential for identification and new aspects of spatial awareness. The goal is to create high qualities for living, working, and leisure, and a stimulating succession of developed and green, private, semi-public, and public zones, which come alive when visited and individually appropriated by users and are open spaces of possibility rather than being highly defined.
