Scope of the contest The European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) launched a restricted international multidisciplinary project competition for the design of the new JRC headquarters in Seville, Spain. Riegler Riewe Architects in team with MGM Morales de Giles Arquitectos were among the 15 applicants selected to participate in the competition. The planned building was to have a maximum gross floor area of 11,500 m² above ground and a total gross floor area of 20,000 m², including underground areas. The new building was to create a flexible and modern working environment for JRC employees.
