Scope of the competition On Marchstraße, centrally located on the Charlottenburg Campus, the largest campus of the Technische Universität Berlin, a pre-foundation center for "green chemistry" is to be built - the "John Warner Center for Start-ups in Green Chemistry Chemical Invention Factory" or Chemical Invention Factory CIF for short. A laboratory building is to be developed that will provide start-up teams in the field of "green chemistry" with qualified space in the form of 12 laboratory units in order to advance research and development and to facilitate cooperation between different start-up teams and with partners from the fields of education and the private sector. The planned laboratory building is to be designed with 1,098 sqm usable area.

The development of the space and function program for the "Chemical Invention Factory" was based on a number of 12 founding teams in order to achieve a concept based on synergies and cooperation. Each team was to be provided with a "cluster". A "cluster" consists of a laboratory, an analysis room and an office workstation. Further facilities are available for the joint use of the 12 teams: a demonstration laboratory, a tea kitchen, measuring rooms, chemical storage rooms as well as sanitary and storage rooms. The building is to be certified to the BNB-Silver quality standard (Evaluation system for sustainable building).
